Introduction
In his first message as president of Mexico, President Felipe Calderón Hinojosa defined the priorities of the new administration. One issue which he particularly highlighted was that of security for the people of Mexico. He emphasized that government institutions require profound changes to increase their effectiveness in the struggle to reclaim security and legality.
Renovating the criminal justice system is an urgent task at hand: the system needs to be cleansed, strengthened and put in order.
